The 2-butanone peroxide molecule (2BP) has a triple mechanism of action: oxidant, radical-forming and amphipathic.

Those mechanisms work in biochemistry and non-specificity simultaneously, making of this molecule an excellent biocide with a broad spectrum of action and virtually impossible of creating microbial resistance.

The 2-butanone peroxide has the following advantages:

·  Pre-registered in the General Register of the EU Biocides under the headings PT-1 (Human hygiene biocidal products) and PT-2 (Private area and public health area disinfectants and other biocidal products.

·  High microbiological efficacy and broad spectrum of action, being specially effective against multi-resistant bacteria due to its triple mechanism of action.

·  Absence of toxicity and environmental impact (ecotoxicity).

·  Unlike other active ingredients, is inert or has a very low corrosion rate with most of the materials of a hospital environment: glass, stainless steel, aluminum, polypropylene, polyethylene, nylon, Teflon, latex, rubber...

·  Not inactivated in presence of organic material and is compatible with all types of surfactants, both anionic and cationic, allowing great versatility in formulations.

As demonstrated by the scientific studies performed, the 2-butanone peroxide is an active ingredient that can play an important role in the field of asepsis and disinfection.
